M*A*S*H IRAQ (signed)

After the release of Robert Altman's controversial box office success M*A*S*H in 1970, the Columbia Broadcasting System, CBS, aired 11 seasons of the TV show M*A*S*H from September 17, 1972 until February 21, 1983. At the height of the Vietnam War, television watchers in America would be shown a poignant, sometimes vehement, critique of the war on a weekly basis despite the critical tones of the series being significantly tuned down towards the Reagan era.

M*A*S*H was meant to be about a United States Army Medical Unit in the Korean War. What it satirized was the war in Vietnam. With the war in Iraq escalating to unprecedented chaos, many of the issues dealt with in M*A*S*H continue to be relevant, yet no contemporary television show addresses them.

Photographer Thomas Dworzak, on assignment for "U.S. News & World Report", was embedded with the 44th and 50th Medical Command of the U.S Army for this story, which mixes screenshots and quotes from the M*A*S*H series and his own real photographs covering Iraq from 2003-2005.
