Euro Visions

Price: $45.00

When Magnum conceived an assignment on the theme of the 'New Europeans', or the ten Eastern European countries that had entered the European Union on May 1, 2004, ten European Magnum photographers volunteered to document the countries.

The rules were simple: rather than the misleadingly vain or stereotypical portrait of a country that this kind of short-term assignment often yields, each photographer was to give an account of his or her specific experience while on assignment. In addition to photography, their means of exploration could include film, video, written notes and oral commentaries. Photographers share their personal experience of the chosen country, questioning both the status of the photographer as observer and the possibility of conveying the reality of the lands traveled.

"Euro Visions" surveys Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. It brings together the exceptional work of Peter Marlow, Donovan Wylie, Patrick Zachmann, Alex Majoli, Lise Sarfati, Carl De Keyzer, Mark Power, Martine Franck, Chris Steele-Perkins and Martin Parr.
