Description

Born in France in 1942, Raymond Depardon began taking photographs on his family farm in Garet at the tender age of 12. He left for Paris in 1958, before joining the Dalmas agency as a reporter two years later. In 1966, he co-founded the Gamma agency, producing reportage all over the world. Depardon subsequently joined Magnum in 1978 and has since pursued an illustrious dual career as photographer and award-winning filmmaker. Pictured here, gymnast Nadia Comãneci performs the routine that would gain her one of her seven “perfect 10” scores – a score that the official Olympic scoreboards had not yet been programmed to display.
