Fine Print: Octopus. Corfu, Greece, 1938

German photographer Herbert List combined his love of photography with his fascination for surrealism and classicism. In 1937 he moved to Greece, which became his primary subject for several years until war forced him to return to Germany. He has described his images as “composed visions where [my] arrangements try to capture the magical essence inhabiting and animating the world of appearances.
