Description

Traumatized by his years of war reporting, George Rodger embarked on a 28,000-mile journey all over Africa and the Middle East, focusing on ways of life that exist in a close relationship with nature. Africa remained a preoccupation for him for over thirty years. Pictured here, the keyhole entrance to a Nuba house in the Korongo Jebels (mountains), Kordofan, Sudan in 1949. Doorways are shaped to allow admittance to people carrying loads of firewood on their heads.
