Description

Earthlings by Richard Kalvar is a playful, perceptive study of the oddities of human behavior, drawn from decades of street photography around the world. Using humor, ambiguity, and precise timing, Kalvar captures everyday situations that often feel strange, theatrical, or even otherworldly. His photographs hinge on gesture, expression, and body language—moments that suggest stories without ever fully revealing them.

Influenced by theater and instinct rather than narrative, Earthlings invites viewers into scenes that are at once familiar and unsettling. As Kalvar explains, he isn’t out to tell stories, but to provoke curiosity—to leave space for questions. The result is a witty and unsettling look at life from an anthropological distance, where humans become both subjects and mysteries.
