A former apprentice to Life photographer Gjon Mili, Stock joined Magnum in 1951. Renowned for iconic portraits, including James Dean, he also documented jazz musicians in Jazz Street (1957-1960) and California's hippie movement in the late 1960s. Stock worked in film and television and served as president of Magnum’s film division (1969-1970). His works are held in major museum collections.
