Dennis Stock's images of James Dean offered a uniquely intimate insight into a life on the brink of stardom through the eyes of a close friend. Stock met Dean in Hollywood in January 1955 and intrigued, began to photograph him. Following him on a visit from his birthplace in Fairmont, Indiana, to New York City, and back to Hollywood, Stock recorded unforgettable images of the young actor in both his professional and private worlds. In this picture, Dean haunts Times Square, then the place to go for a novice actor of the 1950s.
