Magnum Chronicles
Magnum Chronicles is an annual publication by Magnum photographers that explores and interrogates contemporary global issues through documentary photography. Each volume reveals new work from the cooperative’s photographers, presented in dialogue with images from the Magnum archive. Magnum Chronicles champions the power of independent, collective storytelling to provide enduring records of our world and the people that inhabit it.
Magnum Chronicles: GenZ
While the 2025 edition of Magnum Chronicles focused on collective storytelling reflecting on the U.S. and the shockwaves of its foreign policy around the globe, this year's edition focuses on the theme of youth. It is inspired by Magnum’s first large-scale exercise in collective storytelling, dating back to 1951— Generation X. The 2026 edition of Magnum Chronicles will rediscover this archival project, led by Robert Capa, of the post-war generation, while a group of today’s Magnum photographers initiate a twin exercise with Generation Z.Â
Working with individuals aged between 14 and 29, these photographers have built up a comprehensive portrait of how this generation lives around the world — their day-to-day lives, their hopes, dreams, fears and anxieties, as the population finds itself once again at a turning point in history. “Our goal is, as it was in the 1950s, to collect and document the points of view of those who will live with the consequences of today's mistakes, to listen to this generation and to spread its message as far as we can in our position,” explains Giulietta Palumbo, Global Head of Editorial at Magnum.

Support Chronicles
To maintain their foundational values of independent storytelling and trusted collective authorship in a shifting industry, Magnum calls on their audience to purchase one of the Magnum Chronicles offerings, which will in turn support the creation of new work from Magnum photographers and the printing of the annual publication.
Documentary photography is changing. Photographers are losing crucial funding for long-term, in-depth, and independent bodies of work. The rise of artificial intelligence is eroding credibility in the visual image. Trust between subject, photographer and viewer is becoming more vital — and more complex — than ever before.Â
Join Magnum photographers in maintaining their foundational values of independent storytelling and trusted collective authorship on a global scale by supporting the annual creation and publication of Magnum Chronicles. Purchasing one of the Magnum Chronicles tiers, from pre-ordering a copy of GenZ to joining the Magnum Chronicles Partners Circle, will help support the annual publication for this year and beyond. The launch offers access to collect the publication and benefit from exclusive offerings from Magnum, while helping ensure that Magnum photographers can continue to pursue independent, long-form, collective projects.
