Matt Black hails from California’s Central Valley, a rural, agricultural region at the heart of the state. From 2014 to 2020, he travelled over 100,000 miles across 46 states for his project American Geography, published in 2021 by Thames & Hudson, and featured in a travelling exhibition that debuted at Deichtorhallen, Hamburg. His other notable works include The Dry Land and The Monster in the Mountains, both published by The New Yorker. A three-time Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Prize honoree, Black joined Magnum Photos in 2015 and became a full member in 2019.
