The Collector Cooperative is a new space for dialogue and encounters created to bring together friends of Magnum Photos from around the world.
The mission of this cooperative is to support the work of Magnum photographers and to create a space for discussion of contemporary issues in photography.
The Magnum Collector Cooperative will eventually bring together 500 members - friends of art and photography but also a variety of personalities and professions on the five continents chosen for their engagement in the world.
Applications for the 150 founding members are available until the 10th of October, 2024. Further to this date, the members will join by invite only.
What is the Collector Cooperative?
A Community of Creators
At Magnum Photos, we understand the importance of the collective. It has been our modus operandi since our conception in 1947. Today, we want to open the door to our supporters by building a community of 500 collectors where their participation and dialogue will actively make a difference.Â
Being a member of the Collector Cooperative means belonging to a community of committed collectors who support and contribute to the creation of meaningful, engaged, and necessary visual documentary pieces in all the richness of Magnum Photos´ diverse voices. It is also a unique way to enrich your art collection (or start it) by adding limited-edition objects created by the agency in collaboration with its photographers.Â

In times when reality and fiction are blending to create a general gray zone, the audience needs to be proactive in verifying both their sources and their own perceptions.
Now that nothing should be taken for granted, high-quality visual reporting plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability of records in these uncertain times. Yet, the media industry, previously responsible for that task, is shrinking at an unprecedented pace.
Magnum Photos, with its archive and legacy, stands as a lighthouse in the midst of this visual confusion, and by supporting the creation of independent and reliable reporting, you will be contributing to the records from which history is written.
A Cooperative
Joining the Magnum Photos Collector Cooperative means becoming an integral part of the agency’s future. Your membership supports our legacy, which in turn, bolsters the creation of new work and enriches your collection.
As a member of the cooperative, you will participate in the process of discussing and selecting the annual theme for the Magnum Chronicle: an annual photojournalistic magazine that documents and reflects on contemporary issues around the world. Both with new production and in dialogue with our archive, the Magnum Chronicle is a platform to distribute in-depth stories that are harder to find in the mainstream media.
You will also be invited to attend the exclusive Collector Cooperative annual gathering, and meet the photographers, the Magnum team, and your fellow club members.
As a member, you will receive:
Magnum Chronicle
A unique edition of our yearly print magazine, Magnum Chronicle.
Turned into a collectible object and curated in response to contemporary issues, it will be both a report and a work of art.
Artist Book
A bespoke book edition created by one of our photographers, pushing the boundaries of the photographic image, produced as a limited edition, personalized, and exclusive to the 500 members of the club.
Press Room
The right to vote on the theme of each yearly issue. Be part of the Press Room and vote on the topics that deserve attention and coverage.
Special Access
The opportunity to be part of the Magnum Photos legacy and latest developments by attending the yearly Collector Cooperative event and visiting the offices and archives.

Collector Cooperative
The CLUB membership is valid exclusively on the Magnum Photos online shop.
You only need to have accepted to join the CLUB after having validated these Terms and Conditions, and pay by credit card the price of the membership.Â
As soon as you register and cash in, you will receive a confirmation email of your membership presenting The CLUB.
MAGNUM PHOTOS reserves the right to refuse membership without having to justify. In such a case you will receive an email informing you and you will be refunded the price of your membership within 30 days maximum.
Applications for membership in the CLUB are open to any legal entity or natural person of full age. In the case of a membership by a legal person, membership will only give access to privileges to one natural person designated at the time of membership.Â
Membership in the CLUB is effective at the end of the right of withdrawal, for a duration of one (1) calendar year.
Annual membership in the CLUB will be renewed by tacit renewal, per period of one calendar year, unless terminated by either party with a notice of three (3) The Commission has already taken a number of initiatives to improve the quality of the information provided by the Member States.
Common Questions
What do I get as part of the Collectors Cooperative?
The privileges of the MEMBER are :
1. A unique edition of MAGNUM PHOTOS' annual photojournalism magazine, Magnum Chronicle. Transformed into a collector's item and organized in response to contemporary issues, it will be both an information tool and a collector's item.
2. A bespoke photographic book created by a Magnum Photos Agency photographer, produced in a limited, personalized and exclusive edition for the 500 CLUB members.
3. The power to vote on the theme of each annual issue of Magnum Chronicle, according to a procedure to be defined each year.
4. Two events per calendar year (virtual or physical), including a visit to the MAGNUM PHOTOS archives, organized specifically for all CLUB MEMBERS. MAGNUM PHOTOS will set the dates and, if necessary, the locations.
5. Receipt of a membership card with a Collector's number offering special discounts in the Magnum Photos online store and access to openings of exhibitions organized by Magnum Photos in its gallery. In the case of a legal entity, only the natural person designated at the time of membership may benefit from these advantages.
The membership card is personal and non-transferable.
6. There are 500 Collector numbers in the CLUB, one number being allocated to each MEMBER. Each ADHERENT will be able to obtain their preferred number, if available, subject to additional payment. The ADHERENT will keep his number for the duration of his membership. Any interruption of membership will result in the loss of the number.
When does my membership start?
CLUB membership takes effect from the date of registration on the Site for a period of one (1) calendar year.
Does my membership expire?
Annual membership of the CLUB will be renewed by tacit agreement, for periods of one calendar year, and where applicable under new pricing conditions and new General Terms and Conditions previously notified to THE MEMBER, unless terminated by either party by giving three (3) months' notice prior to the date of expiry of the current membership.
Can I cancel my membership?
Once activated, You can cancel your subscription by giving three months' notice before the anniversary date. No refunds will be made for cancellations during the current calendar year.
Who will be able to join?
Magnum Photos will make a selection amongst the applications received in order to create a diverse and dedicated group of collectors.
Are Magnum photographers part of the group?
The Collector Cooperative is part of the agency that is run by Magnum Photographers. Those are part of the creative group that run the editorial choice of Magnum's Chronicle Magazine and of the object, they will participate to the events and will be actively involved in the cooperative.
