Description

Throughout the 1980s Chris Steele-Perkins recorded the rapidly changing social landscape he found in England after returning from extensive travels abroad. Using ideas of pleasure, he explored public rituals that cut across class and location. The resulting book, the Pleasure Principle, is familiar yet disturbing. In Blackpool, he captured a hectic scene on the beach, while a man calmly reads his book – a moment that perfectly shows how different people employ the pursuit of happiness.
