In August 2020, Cristina de Middel traveled to Brazil to document life during the pandemic for 12-year-old Caio as part of the UNICEF project, Generation Covid. Caio lives with his mother in Itacaré, a coastal town in the state of Bahía, and spent most of his days during the pandemic outdoors after schools closed in March. “Caio has been waiting for something to happen but he does not know exactly what or how to move on and if that is even a possibility. He just sees how the days pass and how the world changes beyond his control and understanding”.
