Description

Burt Glinn photographed the Beat generation in their natural habitats in New York and San Francisco from 1957 to 1960. His documentation reflects a spontaneity inherent to the Beat philosophy: arms flail, music plays, people talk, eat, dance, paint. They are wrought with emotion and tension, and yet exude a calculated nonchalance. Pictured here is legendary singer and musician, Sammy Davis Jnr, as he looks out of his Manhattan apartment window in 1959.
