Description

George Rodger was one of the founding members of Magnum in 1947. Both he and Robert Capa were contracted to Life Magazine during the war and met during the invasion of Italy. On Magnum's founding, Rodger was given the African continent as his main area of activity. This image of New York from above, taken from The Empire State Building, is believed to have been made when Rodger was in town for meetings with Magnum's New York bureau or commissioning editors.
